Why I Quit The 2019 Presidential Race – Ezekwesili Opens Up

Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former Vice President of the World Bank, has just released the statement below explaining the real reason she withdrew from the 2019 presidential race.

In the statement posted to her Facebook Page, Mrs Ezekwesili, who is currently travelling in Mexico, said she had to exit her party – the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria – because of the transactional attitude of its officials.

In a Thursday statement issued by the spokesperson of her campaign organisation, Ozioma Ubabukoh, Mrs Ezekwesili had said her decision to withdraw from the race followed extensive discussions with Nigerians at home and the Diaspora.

According to her, the action was also prompted by an examination of the country’s electoral environment sequel to the 2019 presidential debate of Saturday, January 19, 2019.
